Horror Anthology Movies

Got a double feature of two old horror movies. Tales of Terror and it's spiritual sequel Twice-Told Tales. Both of these are anthology movies with three stories each.

And I got to thinking. I've also got Creepshow and Creepshow 2, Cat's Eye and Tales from the Darkside: The Movie. Is there something about horror that leads it to telling being able to tell stories nice and short? The only non-horror anthology movies I can think of are Heavy Metal and Four Rooms, but I don’t have either of those in my collection. I’ve seen them, but I don’t have them. I do have Dolls, but it’s one of those I’ve never had a chance to watch it yet.

I suppose Sin City might count, but I find those stories too interconnected to make it in my mind. My view of an anthology is that they’re only connected through the frame story. Might be dumb, but there it is. Looking at the Wikipedia list (which is never-EVER wrong) almost all them are horror, one or two I think are just plain wrong*, and only a few that aren't horror. It seems that far more than half are horror though.

I can't help but wonder why that is. Sci-Fi can be nice and short too, can’t it? There are more sci-fi short stories floating around than there are in horror in my experience. It just seems odd that most the little short story movies are horror.

*Comedy sketch comedy is sketch comedy and does not an anthology make.
